the combat system has been upgraded, so the feel of everything and the AI is apparently stronger and now they have more more realistic damage and if you hit them down they will still crawl at you!!!!!
Your old save files from mass effect 1 will affect mass effect 2 if you don't have one then you start fresh. characters from the ME1 will come back unless there dead (no zombies here)
ME 2 takes place two years after the conclusion of ME1
