The game is loosely based Dante Alighieri's epic poem Divine Comedy.
So pretty much Dante(YOU) come home to find your lover, Beatrice has been murdered (shock horror)and you see Death drag her into Hell!!!! So you steal death's Scythe and your epic journey begins to save Beatrice's soul from Lucifer :D
